What is a Garden Railroad? Garden railroading encompasses a wide variety of interests that can vary in degrees from the master gardener that happens to have a train and track running through the garden to the "engineer" that has much track and a few selected plants. Most garden railroads have a theme, e.g. a logging or mining railroad, a particular era, or a particular road name.
Garden railroading is the fastest growing part of the model railroading hobby, not least because it lives within the popular pastime of gardening, an interest and activity that can appeal to the entire family. The action and color of the trains brings additional excitement to this environment that is both entertaining and educational. Do you need a yard? Absolutely not, there are dozens of interests within the hobby and many families are excited about sharing their systems. Our society meets for parties to run trains, help with maintenance of a layout, hold how-to seminars, modular railroading displays, and other specific interests. Every summer, we hold our annual Garden Tour. We welcome you to join. Meet the finest and friendliest families who love to play with trains in the garden. We meet at least once a month except in December. All meetings are centered around a layout visit, potluck, clinic or some other activity. Our newsletter comes out a minimum of four times per year. We look forward to meeting you; please come to our next meeting or group event whether or not you have decided to become a member. Contact Darrel Dunham at dwdunham@msn.com to find out what and where our next activity is and how to get there. Please open and print the membership application if you would like to become a member! |
